iCloud Photostream not working? Reset it.

UPDATE 12/28/2013 – Note: before resetting iCloud, sign out and sign back in. This is a quick fix for Photos not downloading to a computer with the iCloud app.

May 5/16/2012 –  Icloud Photostream stopped working on my Dell desktop, Dell Laptop and my wife’s Toshiba laptop. It was still working on my Mac Air and iPad. To fix the issue with the PC’s I reset my Photostream. During this time the iCloud app on the three PC’s froze when trying to launch Photostream options.

iOS6 Log into the iCloud web page, click on your name, then click advanced. From here you can reset your Photostream. Pictures taken between 5/16 and 6/1 did not come through. My next picture taken on my iPhone did.

EDIT for iOS7 click your name and then click Account Settings. Then click Reset Documents and Data. I have not needed to do this.

It is possible an IOS update caused the issue. I am not that concerned why it failed. iCloud is new and I expect it be initially buggy.  Photostream is the only iCloud service I use.

I have not needed to do this in iOS7

Thanks, Mike. I completely forgot about the website. And Apple is no help at all.

    From your Windows desktop

From your Windows desktop, drag any photo to the Photo Stream Uploads folder you chose in the iCloud Control Panel.

Quality answer. FYI the advanced option can be found by selecting your name in the top right

Doesn’t work for me… Photos still won’t show on my computer. :( iPad and iPhone are synchronized tho.

  5. I updated the Post with iOS 7 changes. I have been fortunate, I use Photostream almost daily. I have iCloud on 4 PC’s, 2 iPads and 1 Mac with no issues of late. If someone finds a good quick fix for iCloud syncing I will add it to the main post.

I realized after I replied, that my iPad and iPhone were not synced. Each of my devices show a different number of photos. Phone had 1000 (which I learned is the limit), iPad had 300+, computer had 200+. I read that if I shit the iCloud/photostream off, then on again, it would eventually reload all pics equally, everywhere. But it didn’t. So frustrating. And my I can no longer plug my iPhone to open it as a storage device – not sure why, since it works with the iPad! – so I can’t transfer the photos manually either. What a bummer. :/
