Two “Stars” Collide – Hemp & Hops

American Pale Ale with 7 grams Hemp flower added to the boil

Light DME, Crystal Malt, Cascade and Zythos Hops

Brewed Nov 30th 2020

This is the first brew we used a pasta strainer to prevent the grain bag from burning. it worked great.

7 grams of hemp flower from Little River Hemp in Star NC, was added to the last 10 minutes of the boil.

OG 1.060 – Nov 30th 2020

FG 1.018 – Dec 20th, 2020. We tested on Dec 14th and also got 1.018.

ABV %5.51

Kegged on Dec 20th. set CO to 19psi for a day, then 12psi then 8. It needed a few more days of high psi to get it right.

Jo could taste a slight hemp flavor on Dec 20th.

We fermented our hemp beer for 3 weeks.

The pasta strainer worked great with the grain bag.
Our new sink makes brewing beer easier. We can cool the wort quicker. Cleaning the 6 gallon glass carboy is easier. Wish we had this when we started brewing beer.
We filter out the trub from the glass carboy to the plastic before kegging. This prevents the keg line from getting clogged. We compost the trub in the back yard.

Hopefully we can enjoy some beer Christmas Eve. Stay Tuned.
January 4th – Malty and a bit sweet.
